Kroma × Equinox
October 7, 2026 · Prepared by Butterfly Studios
Summary
Equinox is the one platform that has already built the program Kroma belongs in and left the food out. Its $40,000-a-year Optimize longevity membership pairs Function Health biomarker panels with a nutrition coach and has a 1,000-person waitlist; its EQX ARC women's health program covers hormones, fertility and perimenopause; its new Women's Health Advisory Board names nutrition as one of four tenets; and its online Shop carries 93 third-party nutrition SKUs from Thorne, Momentous and ARMRA. None of it has a branded food protocol. Kroma's Reset, hormone bundle and GLP-1 companion line are that protocol.
Equinox is also a leveraged, PE- and real-estate-owned club operator that refinanced about $1.8B in 2024, put Blink through bankruptcy, is closing SoulCycle studios, and sold its Hudson Yards hotel real estate. Its capital goes to clubs and hotel licensing, and its growth deals are partnerships, Function Health being the model. So the read is a premium program and retail partner with a members-only audience, not an acquirer.
The proposal is to make Kroma the nutrition protocol inside Optimize and EQX ARC and a Shop listing, starting in the Southern California clubs twenty minutes from Del Mar, with hotel and resort placement behind it. Each step is Lisa's to take, and none of them commits her to the next.
What Lisa decides first: whether a club-and-hotel channel that reaches 115 locations of affluent members is worth building inside a partner whose balance sheet is not hers to fix.
The two companies today
Equinox is a luxury club and hotel operator with a longevity program and a third-party nutrition shop; Kroma is the branded food neither has.

The people on the other side
Equinox is run by a long-tenured chairman, a recently installed operating team, and owners whose capital is committed to clubs and hotels.
Harvey Spevak, Executive Chairman and Managing Partner, has led Equinox since the 1990s and sets the "health is the new luxury" positioning. Optimize and the Function Health partnership are his signature moves of the last two years. There is no separate group CEO; strategic yeses come from him.
Stephen Ross and Related Companies control the group and treat it as part of a real-estate and lifestyle portfolio. Related's instinct is to sell assets (Blink, the hotel real estate) and license the brand (33 hotels targeted in ten years). A consumer-products acquisition is outside that instinct.
Marc Mastronardi, President since August 2024 (ex-Macy's chief stores officer), owns club operations and retail, which includes The Shop and in-club food.
Bindu Shah, Chief Marketing & Digital Officer since June 2025 (ex-Tory Burch, Sephora), reports to Mastronardi and runs the brand, app and member marketing. A Sephora-trained CMO understands a branded wellness shelf.
Julia Klim, VP Strategic Partnerships & Business Development, and Stephanie Musso, VP and Chief of Staff, are the public voices of Optimize, the Function expansion, EQX ARC and the Women's Health Advisory Board. They are the first calls.
Dr. Mark Hyman (Function Health co-founder, Equinox Health Advisory Board) and Dr. Robin Berzin (Parsley Health, Women's Health Advisory Board) share Kroma's functional-nutrition register and are natural validators.
The lenders. Sixth Street, Silver Lake, Ares and HPS hold roughly $1.8B of Equinox debt. They do not decide partnerships, but they decide what Equinox can spend, which is why Kroma's entry is a revenue line, not a capital ask.
Unique advantages of this relationship
Equinox is the only platform with a paid longevity program, a women's health program and a nutrition shop already running, and none of the three has a branded food protocol.
What only Equinox brings Kroma
- A $40,000-a-year program with a nutrition coach and no food. Optimize members get biomarkers twice a year and a coach; the protocol the coach hands them is the slot for Kroma's Reset and daily products, prescribed rather than merchandised.
- A women's health program at launch stage. EQX ARC (hormones, fertility, perimenopause) and the May 2026 Women's Health Advisory Board name nutrition as a core tenet without a product partner. Kroma's hormone bundle is built for exactly this cohort.
- Clinical validation on the premises. Function Health's biomarker panels can show what a Reset does to a member's numbers, which is evidence no DTC brand can generate alone.
- An existing wholesale shelf. The Shop at Equinox carries 93 third-party nutrition SKUs; a Kroma listing is a merchandising decision, not a new program.
- Hotels and resorts: a recovery minibar in New York, four nutrition-focused dining venues at AMAALA, 33 hotels targeted. That is hospitality placement at the top of the market.
- The most affluent membership in fitness, concentrated in LA, Orange County and San Diego, with La Costa twenty minutes from Del Mar.
What only Kroma brings Equinox
- The protocol. Optimize sells precision and leaves nutrition to a coach's advice; Kroma turns the advice into a kit the member opens at home, which raises program value without raising headcount.
- A women-35–60 product for a company that just announced a women-35–60 strategy and has no branded nutrition to show for it.
- A GLP-1 companion line for a membership where GLP-1 use is high and openly discussed.
- Revenue with no capital. Every lender-watched dollar at Equinox is committed to clubs and hotels; Kroma adds margin from a shelf and a program that already exist.
- A founder who built a cafe chain. Equinox's in-club food has been through two vendor disputes; Lisa has operated the thing they keep outsourcing.
Deal shapes, lightest to heaviest
Equinox grows through partnerships, licensing and clubs, and its owners sell assets rather than buy brands. The shapes that fit are program and retail; equity shapes are listed because Related and L Catterton do make consumer bets elsewhere.
| Shape | What it is | What Lisa keeps | Sizing frame (placeholder until Kroma shares current numbers) |
|---|---|---|---|
| A · Shop listing and club pilot | Kroma on shop.equinox.com beside Thorne and Momentous; Reset and daily products at La Costa, Downtown San Diego and two LA clubs; sampling at Equinox+ events. Wholesale margin, 12 months. | Everything; a read on the most affluent member base in fitness | No valuation event |
| B · Program protocol partner | Kroma becomes the nutrition protocol inside Optimize and EQX ARC: the Reset as the program's onboarding kit, daily products in the coach's plan, Function Health panels tracking outcomes; hotel minibar and AMAALA placement. Per-member fee or bundled pricing; co-marketing by Equinox. | Brand and IP; clinical evidence Kroma owns jointly | Program fee; no equity |
| C · Strategic minority | A minority stake from Equinox Group or one of its owners (Related, L Catterton, which invests in consumer brands) with a right of first refusal. Equinox itself has no history of brand investments. | Control; a PE-adjacent strategic on the cap table | Kroma's last mark ~$14M post (Feb 2024); a strategic round at $20–35M pre-money would be consistent with two years of growth plus this program channel |
| D · Acquisition | Equinox acquires Kroma as its nutrition brand across clubs, hotels and Optimize. Out of pattern for a leveraged operator whose owners are selling assets. | Equity in a leveraged private company; low liquidity | Premium wellness brands with strong repeat have traded around 1–4× revenue |

A and B are the ask, and B is the prize: a branded protocol inside a $40,000 program is a reference no other partner can offer. C is realistic only through L Catterton; D is not a 2026 conversation.
Fit risks to settle early
- Balance sheet. About $1.8B of private-credit debt, a 2023 downgrade, Blink's bankruptcy and SoulCycle's contraction mean Equinox's capital is spoken for. Kroma should never carry inventory risk on Equinox's behalf; terms are sell-through or program fee, paid on schedule.
- Vendor history. Equinox has been in disputes with two in-club food vendors (Juice Press, Roots Pressed Juices). Contract terms on exclusivity, payment and exit need to be clean before the first pallet ships.
- Pace. Decisions route through Spevak and a new operating team installed 2024–25; Optimize took a year from announcement to expansion. Plan on two quarters from first meeting to live program.
- Members only. Equinox's audience is gated; a Kroma placement reaches members, not the public. The value is prestige and clinical evidence, and the volume is the hotels and Shop.
- Program fit. Optimize is $40,000 a year and EQX ARC is clinical; Kroma's voice is nourishment and joy. The product fits; the copy needs to speak the program's precision language inside Equinox and keep Kroma's own voice everywhere else.
The path in and proposed sequence
The door is the partnerships desk that built Optimize and EQX ARC, with the functional-medicine advisors as validators.
- Lisa sets the frame. Program partner or retail partner, and whether she wants Kroma's evidence base built inside Equinox's clinical frame. Current revenue, repeat rate and gross margin.
- Open with Partnerships. Julia Klim (Strategic Partnerships) and Stephanie Musso (Chief of Staff) are the public owners of Optimize, Function and EQX ARC. The pitch is the protocol the programs lack. A Dr. Will Cole to Dr. Mark Hyman or Dr. Robin Berzin introduction runs in parallel; the functional-medicine community is small and Kroma's advisor sits in it.
- Shape A for one quarter. Shop listing plus a four-club Southern California pilot anchored at La Costa, measured on sell-through and member repeat.
- Results pull Shape B. Kroma as the nutrition protocol inside Optimize and EQX ARC, with Function Health panels recording outcomes, then hotel minibars and AMAALA.
- Lisa chooses the destination. C only if L Catterton or Related wants a consumer stake on the back of program data; D is not on the table.
What Lisa decides now is step 1. Everything after it is sequenced so that no step commits her to the next.
